Project summary

Foodbr is a solution to one of the world’s biggest problems...food waste.

Foodbr is a platform where users can be alerted of expiring foods based on a shopping list the user inputs. The application also recommends recipes with the available foods on hand.

The challenge

The heart of the issue was found by conducting user interviews based on the household. The demographic that consisted of:

single/married

student / employed

ages 18- 50

were interviewed. Our team learned that due to busy work/school schedules and family, users constantly found themselves eating fast food for the sake of convenience. Unfortunately, this led to throwing away expired groceries that were forgotten. As well as purchasing foods repetitively due to not knowing what they currently have.

Solution

By recording and analyzing the research data, the Ideation process was able to begin. Potential features were carefully brainstormed and prioritized in order to allow the ultimate goal of minimizing wasted foods to be reached successfully and quickly. As well as implementing an additional feature that recommends recipes with the food on hand. By doing this, we can fill a market gap that competitors has not directly touched.

User Flow distinguished where user inputs were needed in the process. The user flow had iterations between initial to final user flow based off of the user prototype testing.

The low-fidelity wireframes allowed me to better distinct and identify functionality within the interface of the app. At this stage, firm on the functionality of the app due to research and User testing results . It was just a matter of defining the interface's direction as mid-fidelity wireframes using UI practices. Iconography, type, hierarchy, etc.

User feedback on low fidelity that lead to iteration :

Add an amount to food section
insert information on the navigation bar
Add photo & camera permissions required
Age & gender should be optional
Have the coaching screen tell the user about the app features.

Results

The importance of several user tests is beyond valuable. Simply for the reason that goal base testing on real users allowed my team and I to see design flaws and inconsistencies that we as designers might’ve missed. So having fresh eyes and thought process is so crucial went it comes to UX.
